Repertoire: Eight cellos on the stage – that’s quite something to behold! Such a personnel enables performances to travel to varied sonic spheres. Original musical ideas are created due to the number of instruments.
Acht Cellisten offer a magnificent range, from the lyrical brilliance of the soprano, to the melodic tones of eight tenors, to rich bass foundations. However, this ensemble’s particular interest is in using new instrumentation to expose unknown aspects of supposedly well-known works. The processes are faithful to the original – not a single note is new, and the only tampering that occurs is the elimination of doubling and the tweaking of octaves.
These performers and their eight identical instruments spark new, exciting connections in the listener’s ear. Moreover, the solo interpretation of each single part lends every concert a multi-faceted and personal chamber music-esque intimacy.
